High density foam lasts longer and is perfect for heavy traffic and high use applications. What is Density? Density does not equal firmness. Density is a measure of how much a piece of foam weighs in a 12” x 12” x 12” block (otherwise known as a Cubic Foot). This density rating tells you the strength of the foam. The higher the density, the higher the quality of foam. Our foam is rated at 1.8 lb density. This is the PCF (pounds per cubic foot) rating. What is Compression or Firmness? Compression, or firmness, is how a piece of foam feels. It is also the number of pounds necessary to compress a piece of foam 25% and it still bounce back to the original thickness. For instance, a 4” thick piece of foam that requires 45 lbs to pack it down 1” and return to it’s full 4” thickness has a 45 lb compression rating. Most applications of foam use a Firm (45 lb) or Medium (35 lb) compression. This is the IFD (indentation force-deflection rating). Which foam do I pick? Most foam on eBay is labeled “high density,” but what most sellers are selling is actually firm compression. If you want foam that feels firm but not hard as a rock, pick “Firm”. If you want something a little softer, pick “Medium”. If you want something very firm pick “Extra Firm”. All of our foam is rated at a density of 1.8 lbs which is similar to other eBay sellers. This density of foam is a high quality and affordable option for most applications and will last many years.
